Republic of Armenia

The colours represented in the Armenian National Flag are said to be derived from the colours of the banners of the former Kingdom of Cilicia. The red stands for blood shed by Armenian soldiers - past and present, the orange for the farmers and the fertile soil worked by them, and the blue is for the sky.

This flag was readopted after gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
