Bermuda

The emblem on the flag of Bermuda shows the ship 'Sea Venture' sinking off the coast of Bermuda in 1609 - one of nine ships under the command of Admiral Sir George Somers which set sail from Plymouth bound for Jamestown, Virginia. Stranded in Bermuda for 42 weeks, the survivors eventually managed to reach Jamestown in two ships with vital supplies and as a result of this Bermuda was included in the 'Third Virginia Charter' of 1612.

One of the colonists, John Rolfe, was later to become the husband of Princess Pocahontas.
