Chile

The blue in the National Flag of Chile represents the sky and the star stands for the power of the government. The white is symbolic of the snow covered Andes, and the red is for the blood that has been spilt in the name of freedom.

This flag was conceived by José Ignacio Zenteno, and was adopted on the 18th of October in 1817, during the government of Bernardo O'Higgins just before Chile won its independence from Spain (in 1818).
