Federal Republic of Germany

The colours of the German flag were first used by the Frankfurt Parliament in 1848 for the proposed United German Empire. Since adoption in 1848 the National Flag, or Bundesflagge, as it is officially known, has been abolished in 1852, readopted in 1919, abolished again in 1933, and finally readopted again in 1949.

It was used by the German Democratic Republic until 1959 with a coat of arms But reverted back to the plain version in 1990 when Germany reunited.
