Republic of Estonia

The Estonian National colours of blue black and white date back to 1881 and were associated with the Society of the Estonian Students. This was a time in history when Estonia's individual identity was being forged, after centuries of German and Russian domination.

In 1922 the flag was officially adopted only to be removed in 1940 after annexation of Estonia by the Soviet Union, and finally to return once again in 1990.
