Spain

The red and yellow used in this flag are traditional Spanish colours and have their origins in the coat of arms from the original Spanish Kingdoms.

The coat of arms in the modern flag depicts a crowned sheild that is flanked by the Pillars of Hercules (Gibralter and Cueta).

This version of the flag was adopted in 1981 when the eagle was removed.
