France

The 'Tricolor' is an emblem of the Fifth Republic and its origins stem from the French Revolution.

Blue and red denote the City of Paris, and the white of Louis XVI - added by Lafayette, Commander of the Guard.

The colours originally came together in the form of a cockade in 1789. The 'Tricolor' became the National Flag in 1794 after the Law of 27 Pluviôse.
