Hong Kong

The flower on the flag of Hong Kong belongs to the Hong Kong Orchid Tree (Bauhinia Blakeana) and is named after Sir Henry Blake - the Governor of Hong Kong form 1898 to 1903 and a keen botanist who discovered the plant near Pokfulam in 1880.

The flag was adopted on the 16th of February 1990 and officially hoisted on the 1st of July 1997.
