Republic of Hungary

The flag of the Republic of Hungary, as it is now, is based on the French Tricolore of the French Revolution and was first used in the 1848-49 uprising.

The colours are said to date back to the 9th Century and have the following meanings: Red for strength; White for faithfulness; and Green for hope.
