Japan

The Japanese National Flag, or Hinomaru, has the symbol of the rising sun on a white background. It is said that the priest Nichiren gave a sun flag, a symbol of Buddhism, to the Shogun who at the time was politically opposed to the Emperor - who was a God in Shintoism. He did this in an attempt to help the Shogun to save Japan from Mongol invasion in 1274 and 1281. The Nichiren was formed, now called Soka-Gakkai, whose political part, Komei-tou, forms the the present Japanese cabinet.
