Republic of Lithuania

The colours used in the Lithuanian flag are symbolic of: yellow for grain, green for forests and red for the blood that has been shed defending the nation.

Lithuania was the first of the former Soviet Satellites to break with Moscow and adopted its old tricolour as the official state flag in 1989. This flag had been used before, between 1918 and 1940, during a previous period of independence from Russia.
