Republic of Latvia

The colours used in the National Flag of Latvia are said to be symbolic of the following meanings: White for truth, honour and trustworthiness; and Maroon for the blood that has been shed in the recent past.

This flag dates from 1279 but was first adopted on the 18th of November 1918, secretly during the Soviet era. It was later readopted on the 27th of February 1990.
