Kingdom of the Netherlands

The National Flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was first used in the late 16th century when the Dutch provinces revolted against Spain. Prince William of Orange was their leader and the colours where originally orange, white and blue - the orange later to become red.

The flag was adopted in 1937 and, although no official law is in place, it is considered the 'Koninkrijksvlag' - or 'Flag of the Kingdom'.
