Norway

The blue in the Norwegian Flag is taken from the the Swedish Flag, and the red and white is from the 'Dannebrog', or Danish Flag. Norway did not have a National Flag until the constitution was written. Her flag was designed in 1821 and was generally recognised by 1844. It was, however, unpopular due to a 'Union Canton' consisting of the combined flags of Norway and Sweden in the upper hoist side. By 1899 this was removed to give the version used today.
