Papua New Guinea

The colours used in the Nation Flag of Papua New Guinea are traditional and can be found in local art and clothing. The flying yellow bird of paradise is indicative of freedom, representing the birth of this country as an independent nation. The five stars are the Southern Cross constellation and symbolise Papua New Guinea's links to Australia.

This flag was officially adopted on the 1st of July 1971, prior to independence.
