The prominent American Eagle is displayed on a white background symbolic of purity.

The letters V & I stand for the Virgin Islands; the three arrows symbolise the three main islands of the U.S VIrgin Islands which are St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John; and the laurel branch represents the peace.

This flag was adopted on the 17th of May 1921.
