Solitary, 12-18 inches in diameter and noticeably swollen at the base, texture is diamond patterned with persistent old leaf base remnants




Pinnate, up to 10-15 feet long, silver/green, plumose in appearance, leaflets towards base of petioles are spiny


Small white flowers on 2-3 foot long branching inflorescences formed from among the leaves


¾ of an inch in diameter, oval, orange/yellow and purple/black when ripe


Dioecious, male and female flowers occur on different plants
